Some Reminders on How to Save on Gasoline Consumption

from: Coupon Warriors

Do your eyes widen and your brows arch when you pull into a gas bar to fill up?

With today's gasoline prices continuing to escalate, motorists are looking for ways to save and make their gasoline consumption go farther.

If you're unable to eliminate driving and the need for gasoline completely, you need to maximize your gasoline consumption and find ways to save more.

Spending more than you can afford on your gasoline consumption? If so, think about trimming back on refills. Many things are more important than gasoline, so your money should be allocated for more than just gasoline bills.

Saving on gasoline by commuting and using your car less often is not the same as not eating food just to save on groceries. That is simply not saving.

Saving on gas means maximizing the amount of gasoline you use, thus giving you better gasoline mileage.

Here are a few reminders of what you can do to maximize gasoline consumption:

1. A regular tune up on your car can do wonders.

It can mean a longer life span for the vehicle as well as guarantee better gas mileage.

You don't have to drive the newest model to ensure you get better gas mileage. Performance will depend entirely on how you maintain your car's condition.

If everything is working perfectly, you can be assured of achieving better gas mileage, which means less gasoline refills.

2. Are you a racer?

If you tend to speed, try to drive a little slower. Driving fast like the wind will get you into trouble as well as waste a lot of gasoline without you realizing it.

Experts say that "traveling velocity" can greatly impact the amount of gasoline you use. For example, if you drive at 105 kph instead of 88 kph, you're increasing your gasoline consumption up to 17%. That translates into a lot of gasoline, and when converted into dollars, that's simply overspending.

3. Check the condition of your car filter

Filters seem to be one of the most neglected parts on a car. Most motorists don't understand the importance of air filters.

Your car's filter makes it's engine more cost-effective. They can create more force and energy and, of course, better gasoline consumption.

Replacing your car's dirty or congested air filter can definitely perk up your car's gasoline mileage -- in fact up to 10% more. As well, clean air filters at all times will ensure your car engine's optimum performance and durability.

4. Brake it to them gently

Braking and accelerating more frequently will wear on the condition of your car and tires, as well as increase gasoline consumption by more than 18%.

Whenever you're on the road, avoid accelerating more than what is recommended. Also, try to anticipate the movement of traffic ahead so that you can apply measured, steady braking.

5. Check your tires

If your tires are deflating more whenever you drive, you're actually taking more money from your pockets.

Why? Simply because the less efficient your tires are, the more gasoline you use, and not just because they deteriorate faster.

Always keep your tires well inflated according to the manufacturer's instructions. Keep in mind that a tire that has been inflated by 2 PSI can actually boost your car's gas use by 1%.

6. Organize your shopping trips

Getting things organized not only makes life easier to bear but can also save more on expenses.

Why not budget your food consumption for the week and buy all your groceries on a single day. Ideally, you would find all of the things you need in a single store. This type of organized shopping can help cut back on fuel use.

7. Reduce wind resistance

When driving on a highway, keep your windows closed to lessen the drag on your vehicle. Dragging can result in higher fuel consumption.

Remember your high school physics? It definitely takes more force to push your car through the wind, resulting in the use of more gas than usual.

All of these reminders can help you save on gas. Be conscious of where your money goes and it will be easier to find cost-effective ways to save more money.
