Look For Innovative Ways to Save on Vacations
from: Coupon WarriorsAfter saving and cutting down on expenses for clothes, appliances and groceries, you and your family deserve a well planned vacation at least once a year.
However, even during vacations, you can still save as much as possible. Here are some ways to save:
Save on Airfares
Make arrangements and book your flights ahead of time. Airlines normally have promos if you buy your tickets in advance. Also, airline tickets for evening flights are a little cheaper than for day flights.
If you're buying airline tickets from travel agencies in your area, make sure to scout out the best deal for ticket prices. When buying tickets for your family, or for four or more passengers, special discounts are available, so be sure to ask for them.
If possible, plan your vacation during the off-peak seasons. The travel agency has its peak and off-peak seasons. Make sure to research these dates.
Every destination has its own peak seasons. Airfares and hotel accommodation are much cheaper during the lean off-seasons.
Bring packaged snacks that you can buy at supermarkets. Eating and dining out in restaurants can be expensive, especially if you're traveling in groups.
As much as possible, bring your own car for road and land trips. Car rentals can be expensive and unnecessary. Remember to get your favorite and trusted mechanic to check over your vehicle before leaving for vacation.
Also remember to fill your gas tank. This will allow you to shop for cheap gasoline stations and avoid unplanned stops along the way.
Don't pay for your vacation on credit unless you're certain that you can pay on time. Interest on such credit can be a burden, especially after having fun on your vacation.
While you're away on vacation remember to discontinue your newspaper deliveries. Temporarily cancel your internet service if you will be on vacation for more than a month. Turn off your gas and electric heater when you are away from home.
Planning in advance can help you save on your budget. Prepare proper clothes to bring for the destination. Avoid buying costly emergency clothes for a cold climate by packing all these from home. Instead, spend your vacation money on important things you want to see or do.
Always keep receipts and track all expenses during your vacation. You can use these to help plan for future vacations, as well as tax deductions if you're on a business trip.
Plan Your Accommodations
Consider the possibility of staying with relatives or close friends to help you save on your vacation. You can also choose paid accommodations with cooking facilities, which can help save money on eating out at restaurants. Take advantage of special offers, including "family" rates, from hotels or motels.
Be sure to take advantage of free tourist attractions, such as parks, museums, free gardens and monuments.
Consider an adventure trip or "camping" vacation. This is really cheap and fun. Some national parks and forest campgrounds only charge you minimal fee for your stay, and some even let you rent your tents. The idea of marshmallows with hotdogs on your bonfire can be exciting.
Remember to budget for souvenirs. Avoid buying unnecessary souvenir items that will likely end up in your garage sale the following year. Buy something useful.
Be sure to have portable irons when traveling. Press jobs at the hotels are expensive.
Don't forget to bring your first aid kit that should contain medicines, alcohol, as well as ointments and salves for healing minor bruises and cuts.
As for pets, leave them with trusted friends or families instead of bringing them along.
